Student Wins Top Honors at SARSEF
Tucson, March 10 - Sonoran Science Academy-East 3rd grader Okan Guvenc received the Tucson Electric Power Top Elementary School Project award and a $100 check, at the 2019 Southern Arizona Research, Science and Engineering Fair (SARSEF) Awards ceremony, held on Saturday, March 11th.

Student poses with science fair awardOkan noticed that the sun is constantly giving out mass and energy, and may end up getting smaller over time, and wondered what kind of effects this could have on our planet. Using a computer simulator, he gradually decreased the Sun's mass, and found out that our planet would get increasingly farther from the sun, colder, and slower in its orbit.

Judges from Tucson Electric Power recognized that the project had implications for the future of energy use in our planet and chose Okan’s project for its main sponsor top award.
