[Tucson, AZ] On April 16th, 2019, the Flinn Foundation announced their 2019 Flinn Scholars and SSA’s Finlay Parsons was named as one of just twenty of Arizona’s highest-achieving seniors to be awarded this prestigious scholarship.
According to the foundation’s website, the Flinn Scholars will receive scholarships to Arizona’s three public research universities valued at more than $120,000 per student. The merit-based award—which recipients accept in many instances over admission to the nation’s most prestigious universities—is a full ride that covers the cost of tuition, fees, housing and meals and provides funding for at least two study-abroad experiences plus additional benefits.
Also according to the website, the Class of 2019 Flinn Scholars was selected from a record-high 894 applications, or an award rate of just 2.2%!
In the same week, Finlay was also notified that he is a National Merit Scholar. About 1.6 million students enter the National Merit Scholarship when they take the PSAT/NMSQT. Semifinalists are the highest scoring students in their state and, to be considered for a scholarship and finalist standing, they have to fulfill a list of requirements. Only about 1% of annual entrants become National Merit Scholarship winners. Wow! Congratulations, Finlay!
