students pose with trophies[Chandler, AZ] Earlier this month, the Paragon Science Olympiad team took first place in the B Division (for grades 6-9) at the 35th Annual Arizona Science Olympiad competition, held at Arizona State University.

Having been the first charter school to win the competition in 2013, the school dominated the event in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017, but did not win in 2018, so every member of this year’s team was particularly motivated to bring the award back to Paragon.

Team coach Mr. Cetin Akkaya said all the team members: Suhela Anika , Adil Pekel, Hannah Abulfotuh, Abdurrahman Benmaghnia, Saamiya Bargir, Ali AlSiraj, Zain Alqaraghuli, Adam Abow-alkhier, Malak Alymansour, Aisha Mohamed, Zakaria Laimeche, Yasser Jamal, Silmi Hasan, Subah Suha,
Ameer Karaboulad, Eshal Bargir, Zaid Jamal, and Ridwan Ahmed, did an amazing job competing against more than thirty teams, as did the student coaches: Omer Jamal, Baya Laimeche, Dilsad Bircicek, Sabiha Simrin, Iqra Hashmi, and Balqis Farea, who worked with team members to prepare them for the competition.

The team will now represent the State of Arizona at the Science Olympiad National Tournament which will be held at Cornell University on May 31st.
