Student Awarded Prestigious SMART Scholarship
student poses in treesCongratulations to former student Alexia Grant who is now attending the University of Arizona! She recently applied for and was awarded a SMART scholarship.
The Science, Mathematics, And Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service Program is an opportunity for students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in STEM disciplines to receive a full scholarship and be gainfully employed upon degree completion. Mr. Oz, SSA D-M high school engineering and physics teacher, wrote a letter of reference for Alexia to include in her scholarship application.
After submitting her scholarship application, Alexia interviewed with, and received a scholarship from, the Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC). Alexia will be working at SMC on Los Angeles Air Force Base starting next summer. Alexia recently communicated with Mr. Oz about receiving the scholarship stating “I wouldn't have pursued my interest in STEM here at the University of Arizona without your guidance and encouragement.”
