Students Earn Top Honors at Regional Science Fair
March 10, Tucson AZ - SSA Elementary School students competed in the elementary school who had been selected at their schools's Science Fair competed against other southern Arizona students at the Southern Arizona Research Science & Engineering Fair (SARSEF), held at the Tucson Convention Center. 

Class and student projects ranged from extracting DNA to exploring how solar energy affects water temperature, and students’ efforts were rewarded with two classes taking 1st place awards and five students taking individual awards.

Ms. Coy’s 2nd grade class earned a SARSEF Grand Award: 1st place, and Ms. Ackerman’s class won a SARSEF Grand Award: 1st place and the TEP Award of Excellence.

2nd grader Shems Wahab with a SARSEF Grand Award: 3rd place;
4th grade Jenny Chau with a SARSEF Grand Award: 3rd place;
4th grade Nouah Ibrahim with a SARSEF Grand Award: 2nd Place;
5th grader Isaak Anderson with a SARSEF Grand Award: 2nd place;
A5th grader Ashley Newton with a SARSEF Grand Award: 1st place and Junior League of Tucson Future Medical Leaders Award. Ashley has advanced to the Arizona Science and Engineering Fair (AzSEF), to be held April 4th-5th at the Phoenix Convention Center.
 
Individual SSA Tucson Middle/High School Winners Were:
8th grader Sienna Cook with a SARSEF Grand Award: 2nd place
8th grader Warner Crouch with a SARSEF Grand Award: 2nd place
8th grader Or Haimovich with a SARSEF Grand Award: 2rd place
8th grader Chelsea Harmon won the Excellence in Civil Engineering Award for 8th grade and the Innovation in Engineering Award
 
Middle School Students Pose with AwardsRamy Al-Kubessi won the Mu Alpha Theta Award.
Saffeyya-Grace Ibrahim won the SARSEF Grand Award: 1st place, the Society for Science & the Public Award for Community Innovation, and the Yale Outstanding Science & Engineering Award.  
 
In addition to their awards, Warner Crouch, Or Haimovic and Sienna Cook are qualified for the National Broadcom Masters Competition.  Chelsea Harmon's efforts earned her an invitation to present her project at a luncheon with the American Society of Civil Engineers.
