SSA Student Earns Congressional Gold Medal

On June 21, 2017, the 2017 U.S. Congressional Awards Gold Medal Ceremony took place in Washington, D.C. This year’s class consisted of 373 youth across 39 states. This is the largest class in the program’s 38 year history.

Arizona had 5 Gold Medal recipients and 2 of them were from Sonoran Schools! We couldn’t be more proud of View Chivatanaporn from Sonoran Science Academy-Tucson (Arizona’s 1st Congressional District) and Ayesha Ahsan from Paragon Science Academy (Arizona’s 5th Congressional District).

Sonoran Schools’ high school college mentorship and leadership program encourages students to participate in the Congressional Award program, as a wonderful opportunity to grow as a person and to serve.

According to their website, The Congressional Award is the United States Congress’ award for young Americans. It is non-partisan, voluntary, and non-competitive. The program is open to all young people ages 14 to 23. Participants earn Bronze, Silver, and Gold Certificates and Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medals. Each level involves setting goals in four program areas; Voluntary Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration. Learn more at: http://congressionalaward.org
